Kapa Haka 2021 !!

 KAPA HAKA 2021

I rushed through the school gates with my hair blowing through the wind.  I was sad that parents couldn't watch this year ,well only online. I started to grabbed my bodics/ Kapa Haka dress to get changed into. After I was rushed into getting changed and then  I decided to chill because it was only 8:05am. I grabbed a bright yellow feather and my friend Lila put the feather into my half up half down hairstyle. Next Koka Jo but on my moko and black lipstick, then I was ready!

My hands were rumbling like a volcano about to arup! I had butterflies in my stomach but luckily I knew I was trained well by Koka Jo. I was even more nervous went the flimer said " ACTION." But I knew I would get over it. Our first song was Utaina Mai, and it's one of my favorites. Next was Ka waitia. Then it was the girls poi called Rona. This is the song before the boys do their Haka and it's called Kapanapana. In that song all the girls move to the back and then boys come to the front to do the Haka. It's only called the boys Haka. Our Last and final song is Toia Mai.

We were finally done. The video had to be edited before people could see it. I wish it didn't have to be edited. I hope you liked hearing about Wainui Beach Schools 2021 Kapa Haka!!

ILMINSTER GREEN TEAM PLAY

 Ilminster Green Team Play

Can you tell me if you have gone to Ilminster to see there green team play? I can tell you I have, and i'm going to tell you all about it. So as you can tell by the title my class MLH went to Ilminster to watch there play. They were trying to convince us why we should quiet littering.

Firstly they told us what the very exciting, convincing play was about. As soon as I found out what the play was about, I was eager to find out more. Wouldn't you be too? They started there play that they had been rehousing from midterm two. Now let's get on with the rest of the play.

They started by the little pawa and the crayfish telling a story to the two little baby crayfish. Soon it was the little baby crayfishes bedtime. But one didn't listen and got one story from the crayfish. The story was about aliens that came from trash planet and trash the earth. And in the end earth was back to being clean.

Here are some photos.

Writing Sample

 Writing Sample

On Monday we did a writing sample on It is not right to fight. You could disagree or agree. I was stuck in the middle so what I mean is, I couldn't decide on what one to write so I did both of them. I ended up doing 6 paragraphs and almost 4 pages. I thought that was really good. What about You?   We also had to try to persuade our reading into agreeing with our decision.

I hope you liked reading my blog post.

Finding out what is the type of writing feature

Finding Out What Is The Type Of Writing Feature

Today in our reading workshop my group was challenged to complete finding out what kind of feature we had in our book.  My group had a poem called Practising for my film audition.  My group was a group of 3. We found out soon enough  that our book was about poetry.

Poetry is about Rhyming, Alliteration, it can always be creative. And I also know that all of these mean it is a poem. A poem can be true but usually if it's true its about seasons, Ocean. And lot's of other things.

Athletics Day

 Athletics    Day

Wooshhh!!

All these little kids zooming past as we cheered them on. My sister Amelia was neck and neck with Nina one of her best friend. As they were racing their heart out to get to the interschool athletics. Just at the end Nina leaped past Amelia.

It's finally here.  Do you like athletics day? As you can Probably tell I love athletics. What is your all time favorite sport?

In athletics we do ball throw, 100 metre sprints, High jump, 200 metre sprints and last but not least long jump.  The teachers said first up for the year 5s are ball throw. we were all excited to get started. We all had 3 throws each to get further than before. I did my best and  came 6th. I thought that was a good placing.

Next up was Long jump.

It's not my best. But you should see my friend Aria, she is great at long jump. I did my first jump and ended up in 3rd place for a while. I had two more jumps and neither of them ended up at interschool. But for the year 5 girls Betsy in first then Zoe and coming in 3rd place Aria.

My favorite one was up next, 100 metre sprints.

Sprints is not my best but I still like it.  On your mark get set go! yelled "koka Sue." I was in first then I went back. I almost made it into finals. I wish I did. Next up was 8  year 5 girls. Heaps of people were in first until the last minute. Sorry but I can't tell you exactly who won. But people were fast.

High jump was up next.

Matua Nic was the high jump teacher. I was 3rd in line. I ran jumped and missed. So I went down a cone with Zoe, Lila, Jago, Bridie and Indie J. Zoe went down then Lila next Jago me then Bridie again. The first place winners  for the girls were Aria and Betsy tieing so then Lola was in 2nd.

Thanks for reading my blog about the awesome Athletics day.  I hoped you enjoyed reading it. I would love it if you told me what I could do for my next blog.  Please give me some feedback.

Travelling To Napier

 Travelling To Napier

Rolling along the foggy road. Trying to get to Mahia, by the time it was 6:00 am.  Travelling up foggy and bumpy roads, as it was still the hour 5. Are we there yet " yelled Amelia".  Almost "said  dad." We finally made it to Mahia!!!

My sister Amelia + my dad jumped on the boat with a life jacket and warm clothes since it was 5:30 am. My mum, Olive and me drove to the beach to see them get put into the water.  It was so cool seeing a boat get put in the water a whole different way. We left Mahia trying to get to Napier as fast as we could.

We made it to Napier. But only the people that were in the car of course. All my family woke up at 4:00 am so we were starving. We went to have some breakfast at 9:00 am. My mum text my dad to see how far they were. And they were only 10-15 minutes away. We made it in time to get some photos of them coming in.

Going For Gold Bakesale

 Going For Gold Bake Sale

A few weeks ago our teacher Koka Rozie let some kids take a lead. Zoe my friend and me started a fundraising group.  This is what we choose for kids taking a lead. We gathered some of our friends. All together we put our brains together and we decided what should we do for fundraising.

Bake sale fundraising for SPCA

Craft fair fundraising for our school

Movie day/night fundraising for kids in need

For the first one we choose Bake Sale Fundraising for  the SPCA.

On the 29 of september wednesday we are doing a bake sale and I am doing it with...

Myself Kyla-Rose, Zoe, Bridie, Millie and Krissie

We are hoping we will raise tons of money during this bake sale so that the SPCA can get what they need to help animals in urge of care.  We are also hoping that the SPCA will be able to get  warm blankets so that the animals can keep warm in winter and get the care they need.

within L3 Reading

 Within L3 Reading

Last week in reading group we read a book called Bok Choy. We had to write a retail about the book. This is my retail.

Jacob was helping his mother some firewood. Then came Uh Sum selling his Bok Choy. Suddenly we found out Mrs Bishop was not nice, and did not say nice things.

Jacob decided that he wanted to go fishing. Jacob went to the cold routh river. He slipped on the slippery rocks and fell into the river. Uh Sum saw Jacob and saved him. Next minute Jacob knew he was in Uh Sums hut.

Then his mother came to collect Jacob. Jacob and his mother went home.  The saw Mrs Bishop and she was talking trash about Jacob.

Bake Off

 Bake Off

Yesterday my sisters and I had a bake off. As you can tell by the title. A bake off is when you decide with your family what kind of baking you are going to bake. We decided for COOKIES!!

I made the elamite chocolate chip cookies. The chocolate chip cookies were super easy to make. It only took about 15 minutes to make the mixture and around 10 minutes to bake. Isn't that fast ?

Amelia my sister made ginger crunch cookies. The ginger crunch took a little longer to make than Amelia thought. But at the end they were delicious cookies. Sadly she came last place.

Olive my other sister made a delicious hokey pokey cookies. We can't forget she got that recipe out of my cookbook. They took about 30 minutes to make the mixture and around 20 minutes to bake. Don't you think that was a lot longer than mine to make?

The 3rd place winner was the ginger crunch cookies. 1st place was the hokey pokey biscuits. And from this you can probably tell 2nd place was the elamite chocolate chip cookies. Who did you think would of came first second and third?

I hope you liked finding out about the bake off I did in lockdown. If you do a bake off with your family you should do a blog post about it.

LOCKDOWN

 LOCKDOWN

On tuesday last week my class MLH had just been on a trip to Managone Wetland to plant and mulch. My dad came to help with the planting and mulching. I had loads of fun planting. After that we found out we were going into lockdown.

Last week, the whole country went into alert level 4 lockdown. At first it was alarming  that we were going into alert level 4 lockdown. Then I realized we had already been in alert level four lockdown last year. So I wasn't so alarmed any more.

In lockdown we have been motorbiking lots. The the other day I had this awesome idea to build a water slide with some tarps and water. It's been really fun this lockdown with all the fun experiences my family has had.

Here is a photo of us on the water slide.

Story Starters

 Story Starters

Here is a blog post about my Story starter for this week. A story starter is when there is a sentence to start our story and today mine was in the deep dark woods. I hope you enjoy reading my story starter for this week.

In The Deep Dark Woods

There stood a deer

Then there was a rustle in the spooky old trees

I was wondering what that rustle was

Suddenly a owl swooped my hair

I screamed and ran out of the woods

My friend Bridie rated my story starter and she gave it a 8/10. I thought that was pretty good, but you should give me some feedback is a blog comment. Thanks for reading my blog post and just remember this story isn't real.

Lambs

 Lambs

Unexpectedly when I got home from school there was a lamb sleeping in our lounge. The lamb was only 2 days old. Her name is Cinnamon.

She isn't sure on milk, but she is getting use to drinking milk fast. Sadly I had to go to dance fit so I couldn't stay home and look after Cinnamon. Her mum ditch her around when she was born.

It's sad her mum ditch her, but at the same time its happy because is now ours. Cinnamon is so cute and loves getting pats. My dog loves Cinnamon is thinks she is Cinnamon mum. Its so cute.

Thanks for reading my blog post about my family's lamb.

Math Whizz

Whoooooo, math whizz time. One of my favorite. Today I was doing math whizz and I thought what better thing to do than write a blog post about math whizz. Then I thought again you would be able to see what math whizz is all about.  So I did...

As you can probably tell by the name of math whizz it is about math. In each task you do, if you get 85 - 100 % correct you get a gem. In each week we try our hardest to get 4 gems or more. You can get buddies and then there is also a leader board.

Here is a picture.

P.E / dribbling

 P.E / Dribbling

Today in the morning, before we started workshops we did some fun P.E. Koka Rozie was Room 1 mini coach. And Koka Jo was Room 2 mini coach. We do P.E every morning, if we have time.

With all the balls flying everywhere it's fun. Room 2 did some skills for rugby and Room 1 did some basketball skills.  And so I did a poem about P.E.

Bounce bounce, the basketball went

Everyone sent, the ball to each other

The ball bounced of the earth mother very loud

One proud owner of this ball didn't pump it up

People were cleaning up the balls

All the people that were playing with the balls packed up

We did this work in our writing workshop because we had been learning as a class about Little Blue Penguins.  We got to choose 3 exciting topics about the Little Blue Penguins. I choose where they live / habitat, size and lifespan.

Now here is the report I did about Little Blue Penguins.

Thanks for reading.

Boats

 The Amazing Race!!!!!!!!

Matrails

Tape

 Paper

Pens

After we made the smoothies we decided to make some boats out of tape and paper only. We planned our boats first and then started making. It was hard at first but then we got the hang of it. Aria and me made a origami boat. We only had 20 minutes to look on the internet so we made a boat as our draft and then we forgot how to make a boat so prince helped us. Here are some photos.

After one day of making our boats it was time to race. Our name was the NZ origami zoom. Our boat came around last but it was still fun.   The winning boat was named 4 strike

Horu Hopu Tournament

 Horu Hopu Tournament!!!!

Getting there

Everyone that was in the tournament had to be at school by 7:45.  All the girls that were doing the Horu hopu tournament where my best friends. You had to bring a hat, full lunch box, shoes, a filled water bottle and a positive attitude.  We all knew what car we were going in and we went. I was so excited , nervous and hopeful that we would win the tournament.

Starting the games

When we got there we had a greeting. Everyone got told that the cooks were making a delicious stir fry.  Wainui and Te waha o school was versing each other, it was a hard game because we learned the game a whole different way, the score was 1/3 and the winner was Te waha o . After that game we watched the other teams. Then we knew more about the rules and what to do.

Around 11:00 am

Our team had our 2nd game. It was an important game because it tested us if we knew a bite more about the rules. Wainui that is my school was playing St Mary's.  We differently won that game because it was 3/5. After that fantastic and fun game we had the yummy stir fry. The stir fry had carrot, beans, peas, steak and more yummy vegetables there was this delicious chilli sauce on top.

Packing up

We had our last two games that were very hard. Put we won most. Then we left and went back to school. I felt relived that it was over but I would of liked to do it the next day as well but it was not on the next day. It wa an exciting day. Then after we packed up and said " bye" we went back to school.

Thank you for reading my blog post.

14 smooth grooves

14 smooth grooves!!!!!!

This week we have been planning to make smoothies!! At the start of the week, we got into groups of 3 or 2. My group named our smoothie Paradise fruit smoothie. Now would you like to find out more about what we did?

Planning the smoothies!!

This week we just have been making a recipe book of our SMOOTHIES. Our smoothie has a lot of fruit in it. We are doing this because the year six's are at camp. We had to plan who would bring in what, so we could make them. In the end, we just brought to school what we had at home. Then we made smoothies.

The Smoothie Day

People brought in nutribullets, and we got everything ready. After morning tea we got really ready, then group by group we made our smoothies. We filmed all the smoothies that we made, but you only had 5 minutes to make them if you wanted to film the whole thing.

Thank you for reading

No year 6s

 No Year 6s

We jumped in the ice cold pool but I wanted to stay in because...We got to play lots of fun games and have free time.  You are probably wondering why there were no year 6s. They were at Cooks Cove getting ready for camp. In the meantime we had no year 6s for the entire day. Koka Pip is such a fun teacher and the year 5s get to have her for the whole week and that include me! Soon there will be no year 6s for the entire week. Just one more week to go.

The year 5s that get to have a fun week.  Mostly year 5s are my friends but only some of them are in the Moana Learning Hub. When the year 6s were at cooks cove we started planning on what we were going to do when they are at camp. Koka Pip our teacher made us sit on the mat and think of stuff we can do when they are away and throw in some learning here and there. We are doing this because the year 6s get to have a fun time at camp, so should we! Next year the whole group of year 5s will be year 6s and at camp, and I'm really looking forward to it. Here is a list of things we are going to do when the years 6s are at camp.

List of things to do when the year 6s are at camp.

Maybe things we will do, mini matakai, movies, forts / tents, plays, milkshakes and smoothie, treasure hunts, baking, play & loads of other fun things that I can't remember.

That night there was a earthquake and that was strong and scary.

The Earthquake

Knock, knock, knock! Early Friday morning, I woke up to everything in my room banging on the wall and the light moving around because of an earthquake. I didn't know what to do because I had nothing in my room to get under. I was really scared.  But after the earthquake stopped, we went back to sleep because we live on a hill and if there was a tsunami it wouldn't reach us there. The earthquake happen around 2:30 in the early morning of Friday.

Overall, its been a crazy week. While, I was so scared  the night of the  earthquake. I'm excited for when the year 6s go to camp. It's going to be so much fun with just year 5s. The whole class is excited.

So far this year in term 1 2021

So far at school term 1

This year we have been doing lots of walks to places that are in our pepeha. We walked up the Maungaroa to the new light house. Also we walked to Hamanatua on the first week.  Today we are going to the marae. But we took a bus to the Marae.

Hamanatua

When we walked to the Hamanatua we walked along the small walk way. We took our bags with a drink bottle and a lunch box and hat, it was heavy. Then we cut across the wood bridge across the sand then went out side the Wainui surf club on the warm sand. We as the whole school put our bags down on the sand and played or chilled on the sand for 30 minutes and then after 35 minutes then we went and had brain break up by the surf club. After along time we walked back to school.

Maungaroa

It was a hot day when we walked up Maungaroa. It was a huge steep hill and it felt like forever when we walked up. There were big ponds that looked really deep and were so slimy and gooey. We had brain break and had a nice sea wind on as. It just got hotter and hotter when we got closer to the new light house. The ocean was nice and calm and that was a bad thing because we had not a lot of wind. Some people had no shoes on so it was hard for them to walk up without stepping on hard rocks or prickles and cow poo.  If you are wondering we are walking up our maunga / hill. From school the hill doesn't look so steep and then when you walk it is so steep. We had to walk all the way from school and the Nui syndicate got to have parents that drove them the the bottom and then the parents and little kids started to walked up. I almost ran out of water but lucky I didn't. We had a break but the break was not long.

Te Poho o Rawiri Marae

At lunch we jumped on the bus a went to Te Poho o Rawiri Marae.  The whole moana syndicate came to the marae. We got told a lot of stories about Te poho o rawiri marae. Te poho o rawiri has been in 3 places. The spot it is on now they own the land. We learnt songs about the marae. Every second year the moana syndicate stays a night at the marae.  The things that Aunty Baba told us were interesting things.

Out of all the activities my favourite was probably Hamanatua or Maungaroa.  Hamanatua was fun because it was close to school and it wasn't  such a hot day. Also we got to eat up at the Wainui surf club. The Maungaroa was fun because we got to have food there as well  but it wasn't as good because it was really hot. I hope you enjoyed reading about walking our school pepeha.
